The signs of the zodiac are divisions of the path of the Sun as it appears to travel around the Earth in one year.
This is different from the apparent path of the Sun in one day, as one motion is caused by the Earth's motion around the Sun and the other by the Earth's rotation on its axis.
It is important to understand that the actual constellations the names
of the signs are taken from are not necessarily in the signs because these
are only symbols used to describe the different 12 divisions.
They were in the same signs when this 12 sign system was originally conceived
but have moved out of these signs after 4 thousand years. But Astrology
is based on the division of the sky around the Earth and the actual position
of the constellations is of no importance.
The Signs start from the position of the Sun in the sky at the equinox The autumn equinox in the southern hemisphere and the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere. Or around the 21st March.
These dates can change by a day or two each year because the motions of
the Earth are a little different each year.
It is actually the position where the plane of the Earth's path around
the Sun intersects the plane of the Earth's equator extended out into
space. Using this as a basis, the signs are then equal divisions of this
apparent path of the Sun, or plane of the Earth's path around the Sun,
starting at Aries.
